Transformation Tuesday: Why You Should Fast in 2022

Last week, we covered the spiritual discipline of serving. This week I want to highlight another discipline that will also be the topic of Sunday’s sermon: fasting. Each year in January, we set aside a day for fasting and prayer. The purpose of this discipline is to strengthen our prayers. On this day, we seek God’s blessing on our church and on our ministries. We want to be effective in giving the gospel to our neighborhood.

Fasting is a discipline, like service and Bible reading, that has to be practiced and developed. A lot of emphasis can be on getting involved in programs and studies, but we need, primarily, to develop these disciplines to have a mature, healthy, fruitful Christian life. Join us, if you are able, in fasting in January, but also consider making it a part of your yearly goals. Are you in need of guidance? It there a particular burden on your heart? Is there someone you want to see come to Christ? Is there a ministry you want to begin or help advance? Fast and pray, and trust God for an answer.

Here is a good overview on the topic of fasting. Take in the information, but remember that practicing the discipline is the essential part in Christian growth.
