Theology Thursday: Life is Serious Business

As we’re all watching the Olympics, I’m reminded of Paul’s characteristic way of seeing God in all things. He uses the ancient games to explain the Christian life, which is a fight. A lot is at stake. A few weeks ago we studied 1 Corinthians 9 where Paul urges us to take our Christian walk more seriously than an Olympic athlete.

John Piper covers the same topic in his sermon: Olympic Spirituality that you can read or listen to here.

What you do with your life — the way you run your race and fight your fight — will make the difference between sharing in the promises of the gospel or being disqualified. It will make the difference between attaining the prize of the upward call of God in Christ, or not. It will make the difference between receiving the unfading crown of righteousness or not. Life is serious business.
