Theology Thursday: A Theology of Work
Why do we neglect to study theology? What was once “Queen of the Sciences” in all institutions of high learning is now an elective at best, and even devout Christians see theological studies as intellectualism that puffs people up with knowledge instead of increasing personal faith and devotion.
The root of this problem is that we have separated theology from the rest of our lives. Theology is just intellectual fine points that have nothing to do with how we educate our kids, healthcare, or the automotive industry. If we can start to see theology as a source of wisdom and truth for all the world, we would be more likely to study it and find its ramifications in everything. We need to stop cordoning theology off into our privates lives and churches and letting it bring life to everything we can influence.
In this video, theologian Wayne Grudem gives a theology of work. Work is part of the creation order and one of our purposes on earth. Hungering for entertainment, we overlook meaningful work as a source of fulfillment and happiness in our lives. Listen carefully to this lecture and the implications for your own work and the implications for economic policies in a society.
“Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” -Theodore Roosevelt
