Worldview Wednesday: Starting at the Beginning

Our mission is to be disciples and to make disciples. That means not just saying or feeling like disciples, but thinking like disciples, and not just thinking like a disciple about the statement of faith. It means thinking like a disciple about every single part of life.

The foundational part of any worldview is the creation story that tells us where we came from and what we’re doing here. Christians believe that in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The naturalistic worldview rests on a meaningless event that happened by chance. For over a hundred years, the secularists have strategically fought to have the biblical view of creation thrown out of schools, and their most effective strategy has been to relegate the biblical view into the realm of “faith,” and giving the naturalistic worldview the status of “science.”

This split between faith and science is deeply embedded in our society’s worldview, and Christians are not unaffected. Many Christians believe that religion should be kept out of schools or that science and faith are two separate spheres. We may need a detox and reaffirmation of the true and healing doctrine of Creation.

After many years Christians fought a losing battle by debating particular points of Darwinian evolutionary theory, but Phillip Johnson, author of Darwin on Trial, made a huge breakthrough by uniting the various biblical views under the umbrella of Intelligent Design and labored to challenge the naturalistic monopoly in all educational spheres. The leaders of the Intelligent Design movement have influenced educational policies as well as advancing their theories through science instead of theology alone. One ID scientist, Stephen Meyer has done substantial work in reuniting faith and science. This is a lengthy, but engaging and fascinating video by Stephen Meyer on God and the Origin of the Universe.

If we are to be disciple-makers, then we must have a clear and robust view of creation to combat the false and destructive views that have completely permeated our world. This message will strengthen your faith and give you courage and confidence for speaking the truth.
