Theology Thursday: Foundations

In June, we are renaming our Sunday School. From now on, it will be called “Foundations.” If you’ve been coming to Sunday School the last few years, you have been through Bible Themes, Evangelism, and, most recently, Church History. In June, we will begin Systematic Theology.

If you’ve been at BBC for any length of time, you know that we emphasize reading, understanding, and applying the Scriptures. Our time makes the mistake of putting religion in a subjective, feelings-oriented category, but we reject that. Our faith is based on truth, and God has revealed truth to us. That truth is what keeps us abiding in Christ and walking in the Spirit.

Our Foundations Class will cover the following four topics cyclically:

Systematic Theology
Bible Themes (a study of each book)
Apologetics and Evangelism
Church History

After ten years in the city, I’ve seen people come and go because the city is a transitory place. Because of that, we want people who come here, and especially new believers, to get grounded in the faith. We want them to know what a healthy church is and to be able to find another one when they leave this place.

A second reason for this class is that it’s simply what every believer should know. Even if you’ve been at BBC for long time, you will benefit from these classes. If you haven’t been regularly attending Sunday school, now is the time to start. Bring a notebook and your Bible, and get started.
