Worldview Wednesday: Colson Fellows

How do you get ideas and opinions? The same way you get a cold—by being around other people. The Scriptures, our authority, give us a completely new way of looking at the world, which is why we need to be daily in the Word and with other believers. There is no substitute or shortcut for living a Word-centered life, anchored to a local church and practicing the spiritual disciplines.

If you want to be more proactive in shining the light into our culture, the Colson Fellows is a year-long program that covers worldviews, culture, current flashpoints in culture, and personal guidance in developing a ministry plan. It’s not free, and there’s a time commitment of about 8 hours weekly, but this kind of program will hold you accountable and give you trusted guidance.

This program is helpful for two kinds of people. One, if you didn’t grow up in a family that taught you to view all of life from a Christian perspective, then you may find yourself learning things you’ve never even thought about before. Second, if you see the suffering in our city, and you want to help, this program will open up new ways to get involved and help you find the best avenues for your gifts and abilities.

BBC is in no way endorsing every single part of this program. With such a broad number of speakers and writers, there’s no way that could be done. But we are endorsing the basic assumptions and worldview that the Colson Fellows presents. It’s good to learn how to interact with different views and sharpen your own understanding of truth. There’s a current Colson Fellow who wants to start a cohort in NYC, so if you’re interested, let me know, and I’ll connect you with him. Even if this program is not for you, there are a lot of good resources to make use of here.
